A History of Success
Carlile Dowling is the result of the amalgamation on 1 June 1987 of two long established Napier law firms; Carlile McLean & Co and Dowling & Co. Carlile McLean was founded in 1874 when James Carlile commenced practice. In 1881 he was joined in partnership by Patrick McLean. The firm was thus one of the oldest in Hawkes Bay and could trace its history under the one name from the earliest days of settlement.
